Native Plants of Philadelphia
Have you been tinkering with the idea of starting a landscape or restoration project in your yard but don't know where to start? Good news. The Fairmount Park Commission's two Selected Native Plants of Philadelphia brochures: Wildflowers, Ferns, Grasses, Sedges and Rushes and Trees and Shrubs will tell you about native plants and their benefits.
Plants are listed alphabetically by their current scientific names (don't panic, common names are included too), as well as characteristics and habitat information, to help you choose the best plant for your needs. Bonus: you'll see which resources were consulted for the brochures plus helpful websites which'll lead you to more info about the plants. The brochures only list those plants that are commercially available as determined by researching local nursery catalogues (PA, NJ, DE, MD, NY, VA) and websites.
