Japanese House and Garden (a.k.a. Pine Breeze Villa and Shofuso)
Shofuso is an authentic replica of a 17th-century Japanese scholar's house and garden. In 1954 the America-Japan
Society of Tokyo presented the Museum of Modern Art in New York with Shofuso for exhibition. In 1958, Shofuso was
given to the City of Philadelphia. It is currently supported by Friends of the Japanese House and Garden.
Truly a world away, the Japanese House and Garden is one of the most tranquil and beautiful sites in the city. Your
visit will leave you refreshed. Walk barefoot on the tatomi-mat floors, experience the elaborate tea ceremony, learn
about the unique hinoki bark roof system, and gaze upon the koi fish in the pond.
