Historic RittennouseTown
Imagine life without paper. How would you make it? Come to the American birthplace of paper and see one of our
country's first industrial villages in a picturesque 30-acre setting. Historic RittenhouseTown was established
by William Rittenhouse, America's first papermaker, in 1690! (Now that is old, even by Philadelphia standards). In
its heyday, this early American industrial village had over forty buildings. Today seven original buildings remain.
Take a tour and get acquainted with the birthplace and amazing life of David Rittenhouse - a true renaissance man of
his day - who was among other things, a mathematician, astronomer, statesman and first president of the United States
Mint.
How many places do you know of where you can not only make your own handmade paper using Colonial tools and techniques,
but also discover your hidden German cooking skills? A one-of-a-kind place by any standard.
