Hermitage Mansion

Interested in Wissahickon legends and history? Want to experience outdoor opera in the park? All historians and opera lovers must seek out the Hermitage. Evan Prowattain built this structure in 1848 on the historic site occupied by the Rosicrucians - a religious sect comprised of "hermits" or Pietists, who emigrated from Germany in the 1600s. Discover the fascinating history of their leader, Johannes Kelpius and while you are there pick up the schedule for the Delaware Valley Opera Company who calls the Hermitage home. This Company is known for its Summer Festival comprised of three operatic productions in June, July and August.
