Hatfield House

If you've crossed the Girard Avenue Bridge, you've probably noticed this curious building and wondered about its history. It started out as a 1750 farmhouse and then got all gussied up with giant Greek Revival columns to meet the fashion in the 1800s. In 1930 Hatfield House was moved, piece by piece from Nicetown, near Wayne Junction, to Fairmount Park.

Hatfield combines two architectural rarities in Philadelphia: frame (rather than brick or stone) construction and use of the Greek Revival style. Historically it was used as a boarding school for girls and a residence (76 years by the Hatfield family for which it is named). Currently the building is leased for office space to the Father's Day Rally Committee.
