Belmont Mansion and Cottage Complex

If you've never been to Belmont Plateau, then you're missing one of the most spectacular views of Center City. In fact, the vista in front of Belmont Mansion has been one of the best city views since the 1700s. The original gardens of the house were among the finest in America during the colonial era. Several generations of the William Peters family inhabited Belmont and many famous Americans including Franklin, Washington, Jefferson and Madison enjoyed the view from this renowned property.

Belmont Mansion and its grounds have a complex history, but the house itself is probably most noted for its original decorative plaster ceiling - considered one of the oldest in America. The original portion of the complex was adaptively restored in 1998. Today, the main house is under restoration and is scheduled to reopen to visitors in early 2007. The rest of the complex is available for special events and rentals.
