Chamounix Mansion
Spend a night or two in Fairmount Park. As America's first urban youth hostel, Chamounix (CHAM'-ah-nee) has been
welcoming overnight guests from around the world for 40 years. Built as a country home by Philadelphia merchant,
George Plumstead, Chamounix turned 200 in 2002.
Lounging in the Adirondack chairs on the front porch you can almost picture what Chamounix was like in the 18th
century. The Mansion rests on a scenic bluff overlooking the Schuylkill River and is convenient to Philadelphia's
cultural and historic attractions, sporting events and restaurants. An added bonus to finding this historic oasis
- guests stay for less than $20 per night! Chamounix is also available for workshops, retreats, and events.
